Building a Rain Forest

This is such a fun term!! Our classroom is being transformed slowly but surely into a rainforest. Today my husband brought us 9 plants to share among the 3 classrooms - our plants had barely arrived when the kids swarmed them and arranged all their stuffed toys (which have been waiting for a home for a week now) in the branches. It looks so cute! Have a look at the pictures of the bulletin board the kids have painted and all our rainforest animals in trees and vines :)

  1. Awww, that's cute. :) We built a 3-D rainforest once in the corner of the classroom- canopy and all. It was part of an all-intermediate biome study. On the day we toured everyone's rooms, the kids brought foods that could be found in a rainforest for everyone to sample. We also had displays of everything that came from a rainforest. I used to have a lot of fun with my kids. :)

    1. A rainforest cafe! Yep, we're doing that too. The kids have to design a menu with rainforest foods and then the idea is to invite the parents in and let their children serve them. Last year we had one room set up like a giant product store with samples of food and plants and spices etc etc and the kids toured and made notes. Then we invited the second graders to come and tour and sample and our kids acted as guides :) It's such a fabulous topic to play with and everyone learns so much

  3. That looks like a lot of fun. We did an African safari theme once.....could not have gotten all the things to stick to the trees if it weren't for a little wire and judicious applications of hot glue. Your kids will love it.
